In 1973, Societe Generale was one of the first European banks to open a branch in Tokyo. Today, Societe Generale Group has 600 employees in Japan working in three key businesses: Corporate and Investment Banking, Asset Management and Private Banking. Launched in June 2002 through the acquisition of the Chase Trust Bank (Japan), Societe Generale Private Banking Japan, is the only foreign trust bank offering a comprehensive range of private banking services to Japanese high net worth clients under a single roof. Furthermore, it was nominated Best Private Bank in Japan by Euromoney in 2009.

With offices Tokyo and Osaka Societe Generale Private Banking Japan has 130 staff members managed by Alain Simon, President and CEO. As of the end of September 2009, it managed assets of 515 billion JPY (4 billion EUR).
