Societe Generale Private Banking was born at the start of 1999 from the merger of the Swiss subsidiary of Société Générale, which had branches in Zurich, Geneva and Lugano, and Rüegg Bank, Zurich, founded in 1922.
Switzerland, a long tradition of private banking
Switzerland is a small country at the heart of Europe that enjoys remarkable political and social stability. The result is low inflation and a strong currency, a safe haven in times of international tension. This country is neutral, is not a member of the European Union, and houses the head offices of a large number of international organisations (UN, ILO, ICRC and many more).
Banking in Switzerland goes back to the 17th century, a time when the bankers of Geneva financed the Dutch East India Company, the Royal Bank of England etc. Private banks specialise in asset management, today’s private banking. This business really took off in the second half of the 20th century.
Currently the assets of private investors managed in Switzerland come to about a trillion euros, which represents 35% of the world’s total, transnational assets. There clients find multilingual staff, with a very high level of professionalism in management and tax optimisation of the funds they are asked to handle.
With immense experience in asset management and investment consulting, and supported by a global network of specialists, Societe Generale Private Banking is a quality partner for 8,000 clients around the world who have placed their confidence in it.
